Big Thanks To All Who Attended The First Harmonic Event

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to our fist Harmonic event which took place at the Marquee in Cork on June 25th. Grizzly Bear and Midlake performed incredible sets and Camera Obscura added real colour and energy to the line-up. The atmosphere amongst those who attended was wonderful. The event was the perfect place to launch Harmonic and now we are busy hatching plans for similar events in 2011. In the meantime, we will be presenting the Harmonic Series in November 2010 in selected venues in Dublin. We’ve already confirmed performances from Beach House, Midlake, Peter Broderick, Jason Lyttle of Grandaddy and John Grant (Bella Union).

Harmonic Series – Dublin City October/November 2010

Following a wonderful night on June 25th at the Marquee in Cork with Grizzly Bear, Midlake, Camera Obscura and Villagers, Harmonic is back with a programme of live music events in Dublin City in October and November.

Harmonic Series will take place in Vicar Street, Whelan’s, The Village and the Workman’s Club. The first batch of concerts go on sale this Wednesday with several more announcements to follow.

Having raised the roof in Cork in June MIDLAKE return to headline Vicar Street on November 7th with two of their Bella Union label-mates in support – Jason Lytle of legendary Californian indie-rockers Grandaddy and John Grant from Denver (formerly of The Czars) who just last weekend mesmerized Whelan’s with songs from his brilliant debut solo album The Queen of Denmark.

Vicar Street will also host the return of BEACH HOUSE on November 22nd, which good news for hundreds of fans who were turned away from their sold out Whelan’s performance in February of this year. The divine ethereal romance of their third album Teen Dream continues to linger as some of the very best music released in 2010. Details of a special guest to be announced for this show shortly.

On October 23rd Harmonic Series will present the long-await return of French composer YANN TIERSEN. Taking inspiration from both European classical music and French folk music and using primary instruments of accordion, piano and violin, Tiersen’s incredible canon of work includes soundtracks for Amelie, and Good Bye, Lenin. He releases his seventh studio album this year.

A number of Harmonic events will also take place in Dublin’s newest venue The Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay. October 21st sees the return of PETER BRODERICK, a Portland, Oregan songwriter who is also a member of the Danish-based indie-ensemble Efterklang. Support will be from Sweden’s minimalist composer Tsukimono.

At the same venue on November 5th DAN LE SAC v SCROOBIUS PIP perform an intimate show. Having sold out numerous bigger venues in Dublin in the last couple of years we expect the positive-thinking UK electro-hip-hop duo to sell out super-quick. The following night sees the last ever Dublin performance of Owen Ashworth’s brilliant downbeat pop vehicle CASIOTONE FOR THE PAINFULLY ALONE. Ashworth is an original voice in modern music and we hope he continues to make music after the puts the much-loved CFTPA to bed. He will be joined on the night by his Dublin buddy Crayonsmith.

November 13th in Whelan’s sees the Irish debut of Swedish psyche-rock band DUNGEN who are set to release their seventh album Skit I Allt. Special guests will be announced shortly. Expect lots of hair.

Camera Obscura

This Holland v Japan game is so boring that bits of my brain are dribbling out of my ears. At first I thought it was bits of wax but no, it’s my melting brain. There’s always the Shinty: MacTavish Cup Final (Kingussie v Kilmallie) or TJ Hooker, a favourite of mine as a wee guy. A big lardy middle aged William Shatner slithering over a cop car like a broken egg yolk does not look as cool to me as a 33 year old man, it has to be said. Read More: Camera Obscura
